ScreenBit

A screen recorder built for demos. Pick a region, talk over it on camera, get an mp4.

ScreenBit recording a demo: a 1280 by 720 region of an Arcforma Mail window with a soft orange edge, a small pill below it showing the elapsed time with stop and discard buttons, and a camera bubble in the bottom right corner with the presenter talking.

Recording a demo of Arcforma Mail. The selector, halo and HUD are drawn by ScreenBit's own code. The person on camera is invented and drawn by this page.

I built it to record demos, and every part of it is there because a demo needed it. It lives in the menu bar and records a region of the screen with the microphone and the system sound mixed into one track.

The camera bubble sits in the corner while you talk and is saved as its own movie, so it can be moved or cut in the edit. The halo marks what is being recorded, and the HUD and the teleprompter stay on screen without ending up in the video.

The interesting part is what is missing. No ffmpeg in the bundle, and no virtual audio device like BlackHole, which is normally the price of recording system sound on a Mac.

The teleprompter: a demo script in large white type on dark glass, a faint orange line at the reading position, and play, restart and edit buttons.
The teleprompter keeps the script in front of you and out of the recording.
